Hi, my name is Sam Manson. I am a triple jumper and long jumper from Lafayette high school, MO. My video on this profile is clips from my freshman and sophomore year. Unfortunately due to the coronavirus i couldn’t get any current footage of how i’m doing in my junior year.
I started jumping at the age of 14. It was my freshman year of high school and at the time there was nothing better to do than join my school track team. I always knew that I could jump far, I've played soccer all my life and one of the advantages that I have is being able to jump up and get the toughest head balls. During college ID camps, I would be stood next to the broad jump after jumping 10 feet easily and people would be amazed. My standing vertical is close to 40 feet as a junior in high school. When my high school coach saw me jump for the first time freshman year, he was shocked. He knew I was something special right from the start. I made Districts as a freshman and jumped just over 40 feet. However, it wasn't enough to qualify me for sectionals. Sophomore year, I made sectionals and my PR that year was 44ft and 1in. This junior year, I was hoping to jump around 45 or 46 and go to state. However, with the current Pandemic, our time got cut very short and I was unable to compete.
I like working on my own and am very dedicated to getting the best out of myself. I work out every day keeping myself in shape, plus eating healthy and maintaining good grades. Currently junior year of high school, I have a 3.9 GPA unweighted and a 4.25 GPA weighted. This sport means a lot to me. My father was a triple jumper/ javelin thrower in his high school and won every award you could ever think of. I plan on doing the same and hopefully carrying that success on to the college campus as well.
I love this sport and I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
