Personal Statement

My name is William Ndiba.  I am the student-athlete your school wants! I am a community leader and the SAAB president at Williard High School. I want to attend a University that will challenge me and push me beyond my comfort zone on the track and in the classroom! I am a leader, and I want to be the leader of your team! My drive to be number one can be seen throughout my entire life. I entered the world of competitive sports through Taekwondo at the age of five. Since I began fighting, I have held the regional title in the AMA division for my age and belt rank. I am now a 2nd degree black belt and lead instructor at Springfield Taekwondo Academy.

I have played football since the age of six. However, I found my passion when I stepped on the track to run the 100 hurdles in seventh grade. In my first year in high school, my hard work and dedication placed me on the Varsity team. I have competed at the Varsity level every year since then in the 110 and 300 hurdles. I train year-round, and it shows when the gun goes off. I am on the track before and after every other student, and my dedication to weight lifting and cardio training propel me to be the top male athlete in my school!

Not only am I very coachable, but I am the athlete the coaches come to for assistance in leading practices. In the 2022-2023 competitive year, besides placement awards, I received three awards from Williard High School: Class 5 District 5 All-District for outstanding performance in the 110 hurdles, the male MVP for track and field, scoring the most points overall, and the top male sprinter for 2023.

In the classroom, I have overcome the challenge of dyslexia with the same fighting spirit. I study hard, reach out for assistance when needed, and ask questions for clarification to ensure I stay on track academically. I am a fighter, and that spirit guides me through challenges. I don't back down when things get complicated. Instead, I dig in, use the resources available, and figure out the path to success.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsAs a child challenged by severe dyslexia, most teachers overlooked me. However, this challenge has shaped me into a resilient and determined individual. But I never gave up. I fought for success. I spent every spare moment outside of school and sports with tutors at school and private. My determination has paid off. My grades rose dramatically last year, with all A's and B's. I am continuing that path this year and will meet your educational requirements. My journey is a testament to the power of determination and resilience, qualities I am sure you value in your athletes.
