Hi, my name is Remington DeVantier. I am a junior at Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Montana. My main goal is to attend college to obtain my master's degree in Engineering. I have good academic grades and a strong work ethic. I have always been athletic and I believe I have what it takes to compete at the collegiate level. I am disciplined and have maintained good grades while also playing sports and working part time at a local sporting goods store. It is this work ethic that will help me to succeed in college. I am already familiar with what it takes to balance my time to ensure my school work gets completed, I attend practices and compete at meets and maintain a good reputation at my job.
Going to a smaller high school, we have access to fewer coaches to assist with our sporting programs. As a result, it has been up to me to develop and refine my skills when the coach is not available. I have continued to make improvements in my throwing distances. As a raw talent, I believe with the coaching available at the collegiate level, I could make even greater improvements. I believe that the whole premise of competition, whether you win or lose, helps to build character. I try to learn something from each of my athletic performances and I do not let an "off" day define me. Instead I try to use that experience to set goals for my next practice or competition. Win or lose, I try to remember something about the journey that got me there. Sometimes it is the little things that stick with you the longest.
I definitely have a knack for shot put and I believe with the right training, coaching and hard work I could make the most of it at the collegiate level. I would definitely use the experience as a way to develop myself in the best ways possible. I believe having this opportunity could better my work ethic, enable me to become more responsible, and make me a better person both on and off the field. I will try my hardest to graduate with the best grades I can get, and if given the opportunity to throw, I would work hard to become better every day. I am realistic with my goals and my expectations and I think that makes me an extremely coachable athlete.
