I have been working hard to make my dreams come true: to earn a spot on a collegiate track team, and to one day step onto an Olympic track.
As a member of the Yerington Paiute Tribe, I was raised on the reservation, and my parents instilled the belief in me that nothing is impossible and that we all have the right to dream bigger than our ancestors.
Yerington High School is very small, with limited resources. In 2020, I was a one man cross country team and trained myself, and volunteer coached the intermediate school team. I was undefeated the entire season and won the regional meet (no state meet due to covid shutdown). My performance caught the attention of the media, and my story was featured by Runners World.
In the summer of 2021, I earned 3 gold medals competing in Junior Olympics at the USATF Florida and AAU Texas. With the Lake Tahoe Track Club, I am a member of the national championship 4x800 relay team. I also earned gold in the 3000m run at both Junior Olympics.
Then I focused on hosting the Remembrance Run, a 50 mile 2 day journey to honor Indian boarding School survivors and to remember those who never came home. My great grandfather was one of the kids who ran and survived and I am grateful that I have the choice to run everyday, because of his bravery and endurance. The Remembrance Run was featured in newspapers, local TV channels, and on many online media sites, including Dyestat/Runnerspace. A documentary of the journey is due for release in 2022 and will be submitted to the Sundance Film Festival.
I am enrolled in AP classes, have a weighted GPA of 3.92, and am a member of the National Honor Society. I am hoping my legs help get me to college, where I will do my utmost academically to reach my goal of becoming an architect. If you give me a chance, you will see me step onto that track and you will realize why I was running everyday, for a dream.
