I am Brayden Lowe-Massi and I am a rising senior at Mahwah High School in New Jersey. I am excited to further my education and continue my love for Cross Country and Track & Field. My running career began when my soccer coach first saw how fast I was in youth soccer. I could run the entire game at a very fast pace without even trying. My speed was a key factor in many of our wins. I then took up youth baseball and was able to use my speed to make the all-star team, but I really just liked to run so I joined my 6th grade XC team in Indiana. As soon as I began competing in XC meets, I knew that running would be my only sport going forward. I loved running against other athletes but also enjoyed the aspect of pushing myself to better my times with each race. Then I realized that I was good enough to win races and not just compete. During the Middle of my 8th-grade year, we moved from Indiana to New Jersey. I continued running and made the varsity XC team as a freshman, which motivated me even more. My freshman track and field season was canceled because of Covid so I had to wait until the next XC season. I became the top runner on the XC team that year and grew about 8 inches. I was feeling pain during my Winter Track season and found I had an overgrowth of a bone in my leg. Instead of risking injury, I had a procedure that removed the overgrowth. Due to the recovery process, I sat out my Sophomore Track and Field season. My Junior year I knew I was 100% and really started improving my times and made the state meet in both XC and Track and Field. I also was the anchor leg to my 4x400 team that qualified to Penn Relays. My dream is to run in college and maybe beyond. I know I can be an asset to any team and feel I have a lot of improvement in me. I am a very coachable athlete who is open to all suggestions that will help me be a better runner and teammate. Being named a captain as a junior, I learned the importance of leading my team and providing support as they reached their goals. I feel this helped to prepare me to compete at the collegiate level. I am setting goals for my senior year to far surpass my Junior year. The most important thing is I will continue to make my academics a priority. I have developed my time management skills over the past year so I am able to work on enhancing my running while maintaining my strong GPA.
