"Who's Ben?" was the question the head varsity coach asked after looking at the times from the first time trials freshmen year. "Oh," the assistant coach responded, "He's that tall freshmen." But I showed them that I was much more than a lengthy underclassmen. I went from running a 55.6 400 at the first meet, to shaving my time down to a 51.2 by the time State rolled around. I like the 400 because it's a gritty race that most people don't like to do, as it is considered one of the hardest races in the sport. It gives me a chance to show that I can excel in doing the work, and grinding the time down, even through the pain. I like to challenge myself to become better and better every day athletically--and more importantly-- academically. As I look to the future for colleges, I simply want to be the best both inside, and outside of the classroom.
