Hello Coaches!
My name is Jason Conzo and I am a motivated high school athlete. Let me tell you why I am a great fit for your college.
I have been a varsity athlete since my freshman year, competing in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track and field. I have run everything from the 200 meters to numerous 5k’s. However, the one event that really grabbed my attention and love was the Pole Vault. I started Pole Vaulting as a freshman and took to it really quick. I practice any chance I always strive, push, and hold myself to the highest standards to become better at the sport I love. I do know I still have so much further to go! In the three years I have vaulted I have made it to the New York state qualifiers for the 2019 outdoor season as a sophomore and for the 2020 indoor season as a junior. I also go to a private coach, Jim Henderson, for extra help to improve my form and get an extra edge on my competition. To keep in shape I make sure to work out and train every day to keep myself in tip-top shape, even when the practice is canceled. It is during these times I enjoy working out with other teammates to foster teamwork as this is what enables us to do our best.
If you ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you that I am a hard worker. Not only do I try my best on the track, but I also work as hard as I can off the track to be the best person I can be. I am a student who regularly reaches the honor roll, I am also very active in the Boy Scouts, and am currently an Eagle Scout Candidate. I have attended a high adventure camp where I have hiked 100miles in 10day up to 14,000ft carrying everything I needed on my back! I am a member of the Boy Scout Order Of The Arrow which is a prestigious scout organization, and I have also passed the National Youth Leadership Training program, sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.
Outside of school, track, and the Boy Scouts, I also a competitive Go-Karts racer. I am a valued member of the Chris Rock Motorsports racing team where I finished 3rd at the prestigious New York State Championship. I also have been playing the Alto Saxophone since 5th grade and I am currently in the East Islip High School marching band. I am also fortunate to have a job working three days per week at our local Deli in Great River, NY.
As you can see my life is quite action-packed and as such the one thing I’ve learned is that is the main trait that helps me keep this crazy schedule is my time management skills. Since I’ve had to learn to manage 5 different activities at once, the jump to college and keeping up my athletic abilities Pole Vaulting in college and keeping a good academic career will just be something that is already burned into the way I carry myself through life. Once, while I was on the internet, I came across this quote that really stuck with me and describes how I carry myself through life. It’s a great quote by Aristotle that says “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” I believe this to be very true. By already holding myself to the highest standards and managing my time now, by the time I get to the collegiate level it’s already second nature for me to wake up and be the best person I could possibly be each day.
