Racewalking by definition requires one foot to be in contact with the ground at all times. The same can be said for what has allowed me to achieving academic, athletic and personal success; always remain grounded.
Being a race walker goes beyond physical aptitude and requires mental and emotional stability. From the first moment my feet hit the track I knew I was not only racing the clock to stay ahead of my competitors, I was competing against myself.
My first season began in winter of 9th grade with a time of 10:30. I knew I could do better and that motivated me to work harder, train daily, and knock minutes off that time. When spring track arrived I achieved a new PR each time I raced. Racewalking quickly became a lifestyle for me ending the spring season with a time of 7:48. The hard work and dedication allowed me to achieve athletically as well as academically, maintaining a 3.8 GPA.
Junior year I became an All-American, making me 4th in the nation for race walk.
As I goal set for the years ahead, I’d like to end senior year as an All-American with a time of 6:40 and aspire to become an Olympian.
Off the track, I look forward to college where I will major in Nursing. Caring for those in their time of need is a passion and I have an innate ability to remain calm under pressure. A future Registered Nurse Olympian RaceWalker, I like the sound of that.
