Personal Statement

Since I was 11 I have put a lot of time and effort into improving my baseball skills. I love to play baseball and I would like to play at highest college level possible. At the same time I am working hard at my academics to allow me to have more options. I am developing my team leadership skills by playing on my High School Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball team. I love playing baseball and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to play.

  • From coaching staff: strengths-athleticism,fastball command, bat speed. Areas to improve: infield footwork/timing, consistent secondary pitches, timing in batters box. Where Caleb falls in key team stats: Plate appearance 103- 1st, Batting Avg 11th, OB% 10th, slug% 11th, At Bats 1st, Runs !st Hits 2nd, RBI 10th, total bases 5th, strikeouts 5th highest, walks 2nd, hit by pitch 1st, stolen bases 2nd. 15 Years Old playing 16U. OFFENSE-Swing looks good even though results weren't where you want them to be. Timing seemed to be the biggest issue. Either being out in front and rolling over or not being able to get the barrel out in front and popping it up. Only thing I would work to change is to try and prevent the barrel from lagging behind. In BP/soft toss/tee work you show a very good ability to stay inside the baseball and hit to right center. Keep that same approach and carry it with you into the batters box and your results will improve. DEFENSE--You have a good enough arm to play the left side of the infield at the high school level. Improving that by long tossing will make it a possibility at the college level. You have the athleticism and good enough hands to be a very good defensive player. The biggest thing to improve upon in this area is getting yourself in position to field a ground ball either on a long hop or a short hop. To often you find yourself caught in between and that allows the ball to eat you up. Make it a point of emphasis when taking ground balls in practice or during on field BP to field every ball you can on a long hop just before its going to hit the ground again. Pretty soon it will come more naturally and your feet will be able to put you in that position. PITCHING--We asked you to do a lot between playing SS/3B every game and pitching at least once a tournament and you handled it very well. Some weeks you didn't have your good stuff because your arm was tired but you still gave us good starts. That shows your competitive nature that all good ball players have. You also had some starts that were very good and kept us in games when we weren't scoring much. Fastball command was solid for a majority of your starts and the curveball was sometimes hit or miss. Working on consistency with that pitch will only help you down the road. your curveball has good drop but does not have a lot of velocity. this allows hitters to sit on the fastball and readjust to the curveball out of your hand. Developing a third pitch whether its a changeup or a slider would help to make both the fastball and the curveball more effective. This summer you came to play every day and proved to be a core player for our team that we really relied on. Your understanding of the game and some of the nuances really seperate you from other players your age. Continue to hold yourself to a higher standard in everything you do and don't let yourself slide. Keep working hard and good luck!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
