My name is Elijah Barber and I am a senior at Eastmoor Academy High School in Columbus, Ohio. I have been a scholar athlete since my freshman year maintaining a 3.5 GPA while being active in various activities. such as: National Honor Society, National Scholar Society, Student Ambassador, and currently serving as Sargent of Arms for my senior class. In addition to my school activities I hold a part-time job as a sales associate. I have been running on the varsity track team since freshman year, and my goal is to continue my track career throughout college. I come from a single parent household being the only child, just having my mother and she has instilled in me that quitting is not an option. I’m a quick learner, dedicated, passionate and most of all I am a hard worker. My mother motivates me every day to work hard athletically and academically so that pushes me to work hard so that I can get into college. My drive and commitment towards track and field motivates me to wake up every morning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a 6:00 am workout for indoor and outdoor track while still attending practices in the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
Some of the physical characteristics about me are I'm 5'11 155 lbs. I have great conditioning and strength, each day I feel myself getting better. My personal bests are 38.6 in the 300m hurdles and a 21.8 in the 200m. In my sophomore year of high school I was blessed to have the privilege of competing in the Junior Olympics placing 3rd in the high jump and 7th in the 400m hurdles. My goals and aspirations are getting into a college that will allow me the opportunity to follow my dreams of becoming an Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist. I would like to attend a college that will provide me with the tools, resources and skills to obtain my degree so that I can give back to my community. I believe that a good college/university will help me achieve what I desire. I know that I will defiantly be a great asset on any team and I will give more than 100% on and off the track field.
