I was first introduced to Pole Vault my seventh grade year, my first year in track, by my father who was the previous record holder of Woodmore High School at 14 foot. My dad vaulted when he was in high school, which inspired me to follow in his footsteps. I enjoy the sport of vault because of the challenges that come along with it, the friendships that are made out of it, and the memories that are created. My current personal record as of right now, my junior year, is 12 foot 6 inches. I aspire to have a personal record of 14 foot to 14 foot 6 inches by the end of the 2020 track season. By the time I graduate I would like to have a personal record of 15 foot to 15 foot 6 inches. If I were to be recruited and had the opportunity to jump for four years in college I would like my personal record to be around 16 foot 6 inches to 17 foot. Key placements in my high school tenure are (Freshman year), eight place in both the NBC league championships and as well at the District finals. For my Sophomore year I reviewed honorable mention all team (fourth place) at the NBC league finals and as well received fifth place at the District finals. Adding on to this is I haven’t placed any lower than eighth within my two completed jumping years.
Academics for me always come before sports. As I grew up in a household where if you don’t have good grades, you won’t be playing sports until those grades come up. I put the same amount of energy in the classroom as I do in pole vault.
The reason I am looking into Criminal Justice/ Criminology and/or Fire Protection is because I like the fact of being able to help the people that need it. I have been wanting to be a police officer, specifically in the drug/firearm side of the vast program, eventually being a K-9 unit in a state patrol agency. The fire protection is a program that I have recently become interested in, even though I have grown up around firefighters my entire life as my father and uncle are both volunteers for our local department, I have just recently shown a high interest in the field.
Outside of Track and Field and academics, I participate in many programs that are involved with the school. I am an active member in our schools FFA, being the current Vice president and having been the treasurer and the student advisor. Through the FFA I have learned how to be more open in public speaking. As well, I am active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and I am as well involved in Woodmore’s Symphonic Chorale. As outside of school, I am very active in my Church’s youth group.
