My Personal Statement
I have been raised by a single mom most of my life due to my father’s drug addiction. I do have a stepfather in my life now but things financially have always been tight. I felt that I was lazy in 5th grade and I already had social anxiety about my looks. I felt that participating in sports would help me. So, I played football, then I ran in track and field. That’s how I found my competitive nature and my love for the sport.
I have been hooked on competing in track events since the sixth grade. This is from both my competitive nature and my drive towards being successful. My favorite event in track and field is the 110m high hurdles. Second, is the long jump. I grew up in a town that is very sports oriented and I am grateful to be a part of the sports programs my school offers. I have competed in more track meets than I could count. My coaches say that I am well rounded in my abilities to participate in a variety of events. I have also been asked to help assist the younger students with their events.
I have been successful in school and athletics and will continue to be. I have a 3.8 grade point average. I plan to work harder on this and achieve better grades. I have been nominated student of the month and made the honor roll many times throughout school. I plan to keep working and improve my time on the 110m high hurdles and to improve my distance on the long jump.
