Every athlete says they want good coaching, but it is what you do with that good coaching that separates you from others. I don't know everything about running, but I sure am willing to listen, learn and prove I belong. I learned at a young age while doing martial arts that hard work, dedication and perseverance are some of the important qualities of success. Following those values allowed me to earn my black belt in karate. I continue to follow those values on the track and in the classroom.
Currently, I have a GPA of 3.6 entering my Junior year and its the ability to time-mange, ask questions and dedicate my time to both studying and running that allows me to be successful in the classroom. Although, I am still undecided of my path, I know the importance of an education for my future.
Bringing my work ethic and positive attitude to the team everyday makes myself and my teammates better. Starting out as a runner I watched how the older kids performed. I wanted to be like them, a big brother, a leader, a good teammate. They helped me understand that running is at times individual, but it is the team that makes you better.
I definitely know that the values I learned through martial arts, from my parents, fellow athletes and coaches will assist me along my journey. I also know it will make me a better runner. I look forward to having the chance to prove I belong at the NCAA level.
