My name is Vincent Chenier and I reside in Timmins, Ontario Canada, which is a Northern rural community situated approximately 700 kilometers north of Toronto. My interest in sports dates as far back as childhood, where I always displayed an interest in athleticism. I was interested in playing a variety of sports including soccer, baseball, hockey and basketball. This passion for sports and an active lifestyle was modeled by my father who was himself an athlete who took part in many competitive cycling and running events. He encouraged me to accompany him on many of these events and this definitely influenced my love for the sport of running. From an early age, I joined our local track club and participated in cross country for my school. During the summer months, I took advantage of the opportunities to run our local trails and training at the local Track and Field complex. I have been running competitively since childhood. In grade 9, I needed to find balance while maintaining academic achievements, community volunteering and sports. This resulted in me choosing to continue to run Cross Country as well as Track and Field during the warmer months and pursue basketball and competitive Cross Country skiing in the winter. I am described as a very dedicated athlete.
Education has always been important to me. I am fluent in both French and English. My primary areas of interest are mathematics as well as sciences. This is leading me to want to pursue post secondary education in the Heath field. I would therefore like to study where excellent programs in both Cross Country as well as Track and Field are offered. I would welcome an opportunity to study abroad in order to gain valuable life experiences. Possible career goals include pursuing education towards such careers as chiropractor, physiotherapy or a medical doctor.
I was the recipient of the Athlete of the Year award as well as the Athletic Excellence award for three consecutive years in grade 9 through 11.
I strongly believe that I possess the potential to become a great runner due to my dedication to the sport. I would estimate that my performance would be further enhanced If given an opportunity to train year round. Presently, I am restricted to training from Spring to Fall as our winter weather arrives in late October and remains well into Spring. This means that I am often running in weather which falls as low as -40 degrees Celcius until I am forced to run indoors on a treadmill for the remainder of the year.
I welcome an opportunity to further discuss my academic and athletic goals with you and thank you in advance for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Vincent Chenier
