UPDATE: COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE OCTOBER 1!!! HEADED TO KNOXVILLE NEXT YEAR
Looking to join a competitive D1 program to develop as a decathlete with lead event hurdles. Taking a gap year 2020-21 due to COVID-19 and am engaged in a rigorous 15 month training program for the multis that started in May 2020.
I recently graduated from the highly competitive STEM Academy which is ranked the #1 public school in Pennsylvania and #34 in the country. I entered STEM as a freshman after living abroad for two years and, in all honestly, it took me time to get my academic priorities in place. After competing in states my sophomore year, I reflected on what I wanted to do with my life and I realized that I needed to achieve academically by approaching my studies with the same drive and commitment that I had applied to athletics. I am happy to say that my hard work has paid off; I ended my junior year with a 3.45 GPA in a competitive IB program and senior year achieved all As and Bs with a weighted GPA of 3.68. Importantly, I also learned a lesson about starting strong.
I lived in Switzerland in 7th and 8th grade and it exposed me to so many different cultures and learned that I have a great facility for learning languages. It was also during this time that I had my first exposure to track and field and developed a passion for the diversity of the events, the mental and physical intensity, and the balance of individual and team contributions. I initially began with high jump and the 4x400 relay until my sophomore year when I began to participate in indoor track instead of basketball (which I had played since I was about 4!) During the indoor winter season, I got into hurdles and began to make that a focus, ultimate qualifying as a sophomore for the PA States competition in the spring (I also competed in 2019 states for the 110s and 300s and made it to the Emerging Elite at NBNO). Though my senior season was cut short, I managed to achieve new PRs in the 55m hurdles (7.44, 1st in PA) and 60m hurdles (8.04, 3rd in PA). The mixture of events I had competed in interested me into competing in the combined events; my current composite dec score is 6458, but many of those scores are dated given the dearth of competitions available in spring 2020.
