Hello coaches, my name is Shiv Katakam. As far as track goes I'm committed to training as hard as possible to get to the next level. I participate in this summer track program called West Chester track club and during the other seasons, I run at Downingtown East. Due to my adversity and resilience in track, my coach decided to select me as a captain. I've learned in leading a team there's a lot of responsibility to be taken into account but through this entire process, I've learned how close-knit this sport can be. In retrospect, I remember how freshman year I looked up to all the juniors and seniors and I thought it was a long way to go to achieve anything close to what they have. However, I've come to realize that time is much shorter than it seems. Not too long ago I was in the same position as many of these freshmen; an eager kid with a dream to make it to the next level. Now, all I can do as a captain is to inspire and help pave the way for some of these runners. As always, it's important to be great on the track but academics also play an important role in being successful. I've always been a hardworking student on and off the track. In my freshman year I took one AP, sophomore year one AP, and my Junior year I am taking four AP's. I think it's good to be academically challenged as well as working hard on the track because it helps you become a well-rounded individual. My parents always say the more rounded you are, the less ignorance you have and I truly do live by that. With all that being said, I'm going to keep working hard to achieve my goals and thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!
