My name is Nate Erickson, and I’m a junior and a distance runner for the Tyrone Area High School’s track/XC team. While I may not be the best yet, I strongly believe I’m just getting started. I began running in 9th grade, and in two years, I’ve made drastic improvements. My head coach nicknamed me ‘PR Erickson’ because I set personal bests in nearly every meet for an entire 3 years! I’m still called that to this day! My progress has even been featured in a local school article highlighting my consistent PR streak.
When I first started in 9th grade, my times were slow—here’s how they compare to my bests in just 3 years difference!
800m: 4:03 → 2:23
1600m: 8:27 → 5:00.08
3200m: 18:17 → 11:13
5K (XC): 36:27 → 19:09 (Haven't run since XC, probably around mid 18's now)
My coaches have told me they have never trained anyone with such determination and drastic improvements.
I currently train 20-30 miles per week and haven’t hit my run peak yet—I’m still improving nearly every race. I ran all the time! In the fall I have Cross Country. In the Winter, I have Indoor Track as well as Swimming. In the spring, I have track. I also run in the summer, and this is where I train my hardest and get most of my improvement. I’m not just focused on running—I take my training seriously in every aspect. I make sure to get 8-10 hours of sleep each night, track my hydration and nutrition, and analyze my progress to push my limits. My VO2 max is currently 65 according to my Garmin watch, and I’m always working to improve every part of my training to reach my full potential.
I also take pride in motivating my teammates and helping to build a strong team culture. Beyond athletics, I have a 4.0 GPA, take honors and dual enrollment courses, and am just as dedicated to academics as I am to running. I’m fully committed to running at the collegiate level and would love the opportunity to contribute to a competitive program like yours.
I encourage whoever reads this to keep an eye on me during the upcoming XC season—I know my best performances are still ahead. I’ve attached my MileSplit profile for reference. Thank you for your time, and I hope to connect in the future!
Best,
Nate Erickson
