I am a Junior in a sports study program for track since the fall of this school year with aspirations to compete at the College level while pursuing a degree in Engineering.
I have always loved competing from the very first sport I tried out from figure skating to downhill skiing to tennis and now track and field. In figure skating for example, I qualified for the Quebec Nationals in my very first year at age 7. Our family ski weekends exposed me to the thrill of down-hill skiing and I was upgraded to pre-competition racing within my first season of recreational lessons. I progressed to join the competitive ski racing team the season after and stayed with the team for three years. I eventually chose to dedicate my time to competing exclusively in tennis as I was training and competing with the best players in Canada. I developed a strong work ethic to keep up with the best of the best and began to incorporate intense fitness training to build up my competitive advantage. My coaches had always been impressed with my athleticism and speed on the tennis court and attributed my early success in tennis to the fact that my athletisme eclipsed that of my peer group. As tennis competitions in Canada were halted during the early stages of the pandemic, I finally had the chance to reflect on when I was truly happiest. I really enjoy running and took the opportunity to be evaluated by my current coach, a 2008 and 2012 Canadian Olympic mid-distance runner. After a couple of weeks of running with his team, I was sure that this is what I wanted to do and officially joined his track team in the fall of my Junior year.
The work ethic I had developed in tennis and my natural athletic ability has made it possible for me to develop very quickly in track and field and I am now among the top runners in Canada in my category.
I apply this same work ethic in my academics which will serve me well in pursuing a demanding program like Engineering while maintaining my passion for competing and for running.
