Jacob Simmons '12 Recruiting Profile

     My name is Jacob Simmons.  I am a 5'8", 145 lb senior at Stone Memorial High School in Crossville, Tn.  This will be my third year running cross country and my fourth running track.  I played basketball up until the beginning of my junior year, up to that point I only ran to stay in shape for basketball.   However,  I realized I had a better chance at running than playing basketball at the next level so I stopped playing basketball to focus on running.  I went from never running a timed mile, running a 5K in the 19's and barely qualifing for state my sophomore year,  to winning the region and qualifing for state my junior year.  I ran my fastest 5K (16:55) at the footlocker south regional junior race last year.  I also placed 5th in the A-AA 1600m state championship with a time of 4:36.
     I am still learning and my times are still improving. I am extremely competative and do not like getting beat no matter if it's a race, practice or a warm up run, I want to be first.  I have been the fastest runner and either captain or co-captain all 3 years that I have ran.  I am always the first to practice and the last to leave, even though I normally finish first I wait to make sure that all my teammates are ok and have a ride home.
     As far as what type of college I am interested in;  I am not concerned about size, just that it is a good school.  I would like to stay in the south and go somewhere that I can run and compete early in my college career.
