To start my personal statement I would first have to give thanks and appreciation to my mom because without her love for track and field and requiring myself and my siblings to run, I would have never found that my love for running. With that being said, I come from a single family home and my mother has always taught us that we are to do everything with 110% or more and as long as we know we gave our all then we have no reason to hold our heads down. We also had a very detailed and ordered up bringing because my mother was in the Army up until I was in middle school and with that up bringing she also made sure to teach us discipline, integrity, and explain what having a moral compass meant and why we should always treat others how they should be treated. I was born in Hawaii, and now live in Texas, I have two siblings, one brother and one sister who are both older than me. In addition to family, my other values include maintaining my faith, academic excellence, a healthy lifestyle, and helping others in need. My mom helped me see how important it is to surround yourself with good goal oriented people, and therefore, my college choice will be a very important decision.
My passion for track and field started in 7th Grade and has become stronger each year. I love competition, and the challenge of competing at a high level. I am a very determined person who does not quit in difficult situations. I am organized, responsible, and set a good example for others. I enjoy working with and helping others. Because I plan on studying to be a journalist, I know it is important to be a good listener, and as a result I have been told that I am very coachable and apply what I was taught immediately.
My short term goals for my junior year include finishing the year out with greater than a 4.0 GPA from Harker Heights High School and qualify for District, Area, Regional, and State in the 800m. My long term goals would be to graduate from Harker Heights High School with greater then a 4.0 GPA, qualify for District, Area, Regional, and State in Cross Country, 800m, 400m, and 4x400 relay, and get invited to run at Texas Relays. My mom has been my number one inspiration and motivation and the overall goal is to be able to run in college and make her proud.
I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read my personal statement.
