As an Athlete, I have a lot to bring to the table. For one, I am a very determined athlete with a hard work ethic and most importantly I am disciplined in this sport. Whether it is running at 5 am when it is 26 degrees outside and snowing, knowing I have a full week of it while being at the school for 11 hours due to other extracurriculars. Or whether it is 106 degrees outside and we have an 8 mile run, either way, it will get done and has always gotten done. I also have a burning passion for running, and trying to be the best I can be. For example, my freshmen year I ran 55-60 miles a week starting from 20 over the summer for a 500 mile challenge, although I know now it wasn’t very smart. I did it because I wanted to prove I could be the best and do anything with a hard work ethic. I ended up having an ankle pain, and because it was something I had for the past two years, I thought nothing of it. So I ran 200 miles on it before I was forced to stop because of a stress fracture. Which was definitely a learning experience and I have been able to use that experience to reduce injury risks.
With that said I have learned from mistakes, and have made many mistakes in my 5 years worth of running. These mistakes have taught me a lot of self awareness (mostly that I’m not invincible), and have helped me make smarter decisions and know what I can do, and what I can’t do without a high risk of degrading myself. With that being said, because I have made a lot of mistakes in my early years of running, I won’t have to learn them later when it gets more competitive and when I can’t afford to make as many mistakes.
I have also been in a leadership type position since 8th grade from being a running captain multiple times, to three years of student service and leadership. Through this I have learned a lot of life skills including how to lead, which requires a lot of little things that may not have been thought of unless you have had to go through experiences which taught you those things. This could be of benefit to a team because it could be useful in uniting a team, making everyone feel heard, and just making the environment fun. But it could also be useful teaching and, well, leading.
As for education, I am pursuing an engineering degree in either Aerospace or Environmental engineering, that or mechanical with a minor in either. I am hoping to one day make the world a better place, and so far I have enjoyed engineering and hope that I can make the world a better place through it.
Thank you for your time, enjoy the rest of your day!
