My name is Koen Stone Samuels, my mother gave me the middle name Stone after Stone Philips the calm, direct, and personable award-winning news reporter. I believe she wanted me to emulate those traits and have the passion to discover and investigate the many opportunities and activities this world has to offer.
Coming from an international well-traveled family, basketball has been such a major part of my life and my household, but after watching the Olympics and athletic world championships I decided to try track and field -- now it's all I think about. Watching the style and training of many of the great track and field athletes over the decades I found my sports world.
My basketball training and conditioning gave me an easy transition to track and field, affording me competitiveness and mental focus. In a matter of 12 months, I have surprised myself, my coaches, and out sprinted my older brother. Being coached and developing my own development and condition I've worked hard and have a new level of comprehension of what my body can do as I have approached each new level and now I want to get to the college level and beyond.
I started high jumping at 5'2 and I'm now on track to jump 6'5 by year-end. I went from 12.5 seconds to 11.7 seconds in the 100 meters in six months and I'm going to get better. I'm looking for that college division-level team where I can excel and absorb the knowledge from a great coaching administration. I play basketball, play the guitar, and study contemporary art, and graphic design. I'm dedicated, coachable, and hardworking student-athlete who is looking to compete at the highest level with integrity.
