Since the beginning running has come easy for me. I am naturally athletic, and I did not have to work as hard to achieve my goals until I broke my leg at the beginning of my freshman year outdoor season. I missed three seasons. Two track seasons and one cross country season. This experience has shaped my mentality and learning agility. I had to refocus, and work harder than I ever thought to not only get back to where I was freshman year but to also further improve. I spent many hours before and after school making up countless assignments because I was out of school for a month. Now, I am constantly evolving and training to be the best I can be. It also taught me about the sacrifices I must make to achieve success and if I was willing to make those sacrifices. An accomplishment that has come out of my experience is being on an all-state 4x800m team in my junior outdoor season. I have and will continue to make these sacrifices not only in my athletics but also my academics.
My junior outdoor season started with chaos. Many of the seniors on my team had lost their purpose in track and field and began to start quitting the team. I developed leadership skills through this because the juniors were the next up to lead. I had to learn how to be confident in my words and how to deal with conflict, something every athlete must know how to do. The other juniors and I had to develop into seniors. Not only that, but the seniors did not believe we would be as successful without them but many of us made it to states through our leadership. Now, our team culture has changed, and we lead with respect, consistency, and fun. Since I went through this, I believe I can bring valuable leadership and ethics to the collegiate level. I am looking for a program that will fit me academically and athletically.
