I was introduced to swimming at a very young age, following the footsteps of my mom and dad who both swam when they were my age and are now very passionate coaches in our sport. I have always had a heart and passion for swimming even after I tried other sports, my talent and love for swimming always brought me back. I have been swimming since I was 4 years old competitively. I started on the Mount Vernon Park Gators summer team and when I was 6, I joined Nations Capital Swim Club. I have been swimming with NCAP for the past 10 years, mostly swimming a combination of early mornings before school and afternoons after school. In between balancing school and swim I also participated in orange theory cross fit training program several times a week. I have been forced over the years to develop great time management skills as I juggle swim practice, dryland and a rigorous school curriculum. I am a part of the AP Scholars program at my high school where I am required to take at least two AP courses each year as well as community service hours. On top of the AP scholars’ program, I have also chosen to join the SALC which is a leadership program offered at the school. As part of the leadership program, we oversee many of the programs and activities that take place at the school.
During the summer of 2019 I tore my labrum and had to have surgery on my right shoulder in early September 2019. I have struggled to get back on the right path as the recovery was a full six months of rehab exercises, physical therapy, ice therapy and stretching. Just as I was finally released to practice at full strength the pandemic hit, and all the pools and gyms closed. In July, we were able to begin practicing again. After almost a year out of the pool, practices were challenging but my love for swimming and all the support I had from my family helped me to realize how much I truly missed it and was ready to take on the challenge head on. I have been training hard and hope to compete in December of 2020 to really get a good feeling as to where I am. I really hope to swim in college. I have talked with several older teammates who are currently swimming in college and the stories that I have been told have only inspired me to want to continue my swimming career.
My passion for swimming is a true combination of my love for the sport and my love to the team aspect. I thrive on competition; I thrive on team spirit and I truly love to race. My favorite time of year is summer swim season and high school swim season, when the team spirit and the team unity show its true colors. What a rush of excitement, I look forward to what the next four years after high school will bring!
