I competed in my first track meet as a 7th grader for my middle school track team. I really enjoy the fact that, as a track and field athlete, I get to compete as an individual but also get to contribute to and be part of a team. During my freshman season (last year) of high school track, I really fell in love with the sport and decided that I would stop participating in other sports and focus exclusively on my career as a track and field athlete. I look forward to continuing that journey this year as a sophomore when I hope to not only improve my time in the 110m high hurdles but also add some other events (including the 300m high hurdles) to my repertoire. One of my primary focuses this upcoming season will be on improving my form which I hope will also translate into faster times. I hope to perform well enough at the league meet this year to qualify for Districts.
The other change for me this year is my increased motivation to apply myself in the classroom. Although my coursework has included honors and AP classes, I have not been as disciplined as I could be in my studies and consequently, my grades have suffered. I am in the process of establishing some better habits, maintaining a better balance between my social/recreational life and my academic studies, and hope to achieve a cumulative GPA of no lower than 3.2 by the time I graduate.
