I have always been an underdog in everything I've ever done in my life. I was always the shortest and the skinniest kid at school who did not excel athletically, let alone academically. I have been told countless number of times by close friends, teachers, and family members that my dreams of playing in college or professional sports was absurd and nonsensical and I should rather strive for dreams that were more "realistic".
I am not going to lie, I let these comments get into my head. The constant ridicule I received from close friends and family for having big dreams made me question my love for football and track. I kept lowering my standards in order to appeal to other people hoping that they won't perceive my dreams as "crazy". Unfortunately, I stopped playing football my sophomore and junior year while also stopped training for track my sophomore season.
However, ever since I stopped training for track and football, I felt some type of uneasiness as if something was missing from my life. I knew that if I did not chase after my dreams I would always live in regret for the rest of my life. Knowing that I was far behind, I started to train as much and as hard as I could. From morning conditioning at 6AMs, to 2 hour track practices, and 1.5 hours of lifting in the weight room everyday, I dedicated my blood, sweat, throw-ups, and tears into becoming the best athlete my six year old self dreamed of being.
Although I regret not playing my sophomore and junior season for football and training for track my sophomore season, I am truly blessed and humbled that my life has turned out the way it has. I believe that everything in life happens for a reason and my experience has made me into the person I am today.
I have fallen in love with the process of working on my dreams throughout the years. I have fallen in love with the disappointments, the failures, the pain, and the ridicules. Wherever I go, I promise to give a 110 percent effort in every aspect of life not only for myself but for the team and those around me.
