I began seriously running during the summer before my 9th grade year. I have steadily improved since then. After running only 17 minutes for a 5k my freshman season, I now hold a personal cross country record of 15:54. However, I consider myself to be better on the track. My sophomore year I ran 9:36 to qualify for the 4A Washington State Meet where I placed 13th. This placed me in a great position leading into my junior track season where I felt I had a very realistic opportunity at placing in the top 3. My training in the winter of 2018 went exceptionally well. I was able to achieve workouts and times I had previously thought beyond myself. For I completed 5 mile tempo runs in under 5:20 pace, 4x1mile w/ 2 mins recovery at 4:50, and over 60 miles per week, all while feeling fresh and ready for the upcoming season. I competed in one indoor race in early February running a 3k in 8:57. However, in late march, early April, before any competitive outdoor racing began, I suffered a stress fracture in my left posterior tibia that would force me to withdraw from the rest of my junior track season. After cross training and rehabbing for 2 months, I am now healthy and back to running full time. I understand that not having junior track times may put me at a disadvantage in the recruiting process, but I will not let it slow me down. I am a self-driven athlete, determined to compete at the Division 1 level. I also perform very well in the classroom as evident by my 3.99 GPA and rank in the top 10% of my graduating class. I believe that this combination of athletics, academics, and resiliency through injury makes my candidacy for a position on a Division 1 distance team unique. I hope that you will consider recruiting me and I thank you for taking the time to read this personal statement. Here is a list of some accomplishments both in athletics and in school:
