First and foremost, I want to be able to pursue a quality degree in my field of choice. My parents cultivated intellectual curiosity and a genuine love of learning in me from an early age. I also want to follow my passion for sprinting, so being given the opportunity to do both would be amazing. I’m a very coachable athlete who's willing to take any advice to make myself and the team better. I’m also a positive locker room presence and enjoy the humor and comradery of sports.
My path to finding track as a sport was a bit unusual. I've done multiple sports year-round since early elementary school because I love the challenge, the competition, and because it was always a fun way to hang out with my friends. I focused mostly on swim team racing in the summer, football in the fall, skiing and basketball through the winter, and baseball in the spring. But, in the spring of 2021, as a high school junior, I tore my ACL playing basketball. I had surgery in July of 2021 and was sidelined for the first time in my life. No sports for at least six months. I used that time to improve my strength and flexibility.
I worked closely with my physical therapist and the strength coach in my high school weights program. I came out of that hiatus stronger than ever. In fact, my coach told me that I'm the strongest kid to ever come through the Colville High School weights program. I bench 260 and have a vertical jump of 36 inches. As baseball season approached in the spring of 2022, I opted to try track instead in an attempt to continue with my conditioning and stamina.
In my first year of high school track, I ran a 10.99 100m and a 22.39 200m, finishing 2nd in the state for 1A schools in the 100m and 4th in the 200m. I was then recruited by the Spokane Speed Academy (SSA) where I continued training through the summer of 2022. I was privileged to be part of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams for SSA and we went on to get 6th and 7th, respectively at the 2022 Junior Olympics in Sacramento. By finishing in the top 8, I earned All-American status for both races. Being an athlete has always been part of who I am, and as I head into my first-ever indoor track season, I will be challenged more than ever. I came across track as a sport, almost by accident, but am excited at the prospect of becoming a college athlete as a sprinter.
My goals as a college track athlete are to continue to always improve in my sport, to support the whole track and field team in both their individual and team endeavors, and to push myself academically. I am a dedicated and determined student-athlete and I will always give 100% to any program that I am part of.
I am looking for a university with world-class educational opportunities. I learn best in an interactive and social learning environment and can't wait to find new academic challenges, meet new people from all walks of life, and explore all the exciting opportunities of a student-athlete at the college level.
