I have been pole vaulting since my freshman year of high school. Since that time it has been my dream to vault on a college team. As a freshman, I learned that bigger doesn’t mean better. My coaches saw potential in me even though I was small and focused on form. They knew that height would come later.
Inspired by my high school, club and Jan Johnson who coached me last summer, this season, my goal was to vault 15 feet. I worked toward this goal by listening to what my coaches told me and worked hard at home with strength training. Unfortunately, this season was cut short. During the short time I had with my high school teammates, I tried to be a leader and help improve the other athletes by giving them encouragement and tips on their form as watching for things to help them improve.
Since my freshman year I have worked as hard to improve in technical and athletic aspects and I know that you will not find another recruit that will put in this much time, effort, and work as me. When it comes to school work I have put as much work into maintaining my grades and my gpa as I have put into pole vaulting.
All throughout high school I have kept above a 4.0 gpa and an A average in my classes. The next step for me is college and I want to go to a college where I will be pushed to become the best pole vaulter I can and even better, but also remain a good student and continue to learn in the classroom.
