Matthew Clayton '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matt Clayton and I have a passion for sports. I have always loved to compete, have fun and win. I know that I am not the tallest volleyball player to ever step on the court but I think it makes me a better player because I have to work harder to compete with the other athletes.
 Being on NAVC has been one of the biggest accomplishments of my life so far, including winning over a dozen priemers, three provincial medals, and a gold and bronze medal in nationals. I also competed on a winter games volleyball team where we (zone 5) came home with the gold. However, I think something that I like the most about my team is that I get along with everyone, which is something that I find easy to do. I have been told by all my coaches that I am one of there favorites to coach because I listen and do what they say. Also, I am very open with my coaches and I ask lots of questions so that they know i am involved. I have been a captain and co-captian on my school teams because I like to modivate my team mates and always have a positive attitude.
My schooling has always been very important to me; I work hard to maintain an eighty average in school. I am a very responsible student, I don't procrastinate, and I ask my teachers questions so that I don't fall behind. I've never really thought about living in the states because I love Canada but I am open-minded. I have always attented smaller schools because I like to know all of the people I have classes with instead of growing up with strangers. My desired major would be in kinesiology so that I can later become a physio therapist, this is mostly because I am in there a lot for sports injuries anyway.
My goal for my athletics is just to play at the highest possible level I can, and play it for as long as I can. I don't know what my life would be like without sports but I know that I will play untill my body forces me not to. In Canada we don't have full ride scholarships for sports so its never really crossed my mind but anything that would help pay for my schooling would be great.
What makes me a unique athlete is that I am very determined and I will do what ever it takes to reach my goals. I hope that this has informed you a little more about me and know that I am a very hard working, talented,friendly and coachable person to have on a team.
