My love for athletics started from ages 8 to 13 when I was a nationally ranked Snowboarder in Slopestyle, Half Pipe and Giant Slalom. At my best, I achieved a ranking of 12 th in the country. My career as a snowboarder ended abruptly due to an injury that I sustained in a terrain park. Surfing became part of my rehab. The best surfer's and snowboarder's physiques are small and light. I was at a disadvantage in both snowboarding and surfing because I grew to over 6 feet by seventh grade. I didn't let my growth spurt stop me from achieving the goals I set for myself. I worked hard with a surf coach and used my size and strength to my advantage in larger waves. I made the top 12 (of 85) in the USA for snowboarding and I made the varsity surf team as a freshman and am now in the top 5 (of 25) surfers on the team.
A close family friend who played Division 1 College Volleyball asked me why I was always pursuing sports where my height was a disadvantage and suggested that I should play volleyball where my size and strength could be an advantage. I joined Balboa Bay Volleyball Club in eighth grade and the fast-paced competitive nature of volleyball had me hooked on the game. I love Volleyball and want to play all the time, including in college.
For the past three years I've played for Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and have grown my skills as both a Middle and Outside Hitter. I train with a personal trainer on my agility and strength to increase my vertical jump. I also work with a private coach on my kill/passing techniques. For the past 2 years, I have played as a starting player for the JV Team at Laguna Beach High School. My coach made me Captain this year because of my leadership and passion for the game. I am excited every day to play Volleyball. I am excited to play Volleyball whether it's with Balboa Bay Club, my High School Team, or with my friends at the beach. I want Volleyball to be a part of my life and part of my college experience. I look forward to connecting with any schools that would be interested in having me join their team.
