2022 SpotlightPersonal Statement
Hello, as you may know from my profile, my name is Gavin Galanski. I am currently a 6’3, seventeen-year-old, volleyball player looking to play at the next level (D1). I have many characteristics that make me different from other recruits; one of those characteristics is that I train in multiple sports. At my current high school, I play 3 varsity sports: water polo, basketball, and volleyball. In those sports, I have often been recognized for a wide variety of awards. In water polo, I was awarded First-Team All-League Goalie of the Year. I have played basketball for over 10 years. I have been recognized repeatedly for All-Tourney, Sportsmanship Award, Coaches Award, MVP and Captain. My love of volleyball began when I started playing in 6th grade. I am a starter who plays all the way around. My Freshman year, our high school team made it to the CIF Finals. Our efforts also advanced our team to the state playoffs. My Sophomore year we were undefeated in the Ocean League. Junior year, we were undefeated in Mountain League. Currently, I play club volleyball for Flight Academy. It's been a busy and rewarding year for me. I made the JVA 5 Star Watch List. I was invited to tryout for the NCVA High Performance Team. I made the team. The tournament is in Florida this July. Flight is headed to Nationals in Utah this summer.
My GPA is very important to me. I take pride in the work I do. I maintain straight A’s and have consistently been awarded Scholar Athlete. Sometimes it is difficult to balance academics and sports but I get the job done.
Some side activities that I enjoy are: being an assistant basketball coach for The Boys and Girls Club, I do various service hours for the Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis and I am President of my high school Chess Club.
The goal for my future is to attend and succeed at a very good college and continue to play the sport I really enjoy. My major will be in the engineering field.
