Jake Stanley '21 Recruiting Profile

Hello! My name is Jake Stanley. I am a student-athlete from Van Nuys High School, CA, and am academically and athletically driven. I endeavor towards self-improvement in many aspects of my life, especially in the classroom and on the court. I learn best when the "whys" of something are explained, and am naturally curious. I have a passion for learning which extends to how I behave in the classroom and during practice. I challenge myself both in the classroom, through rigorous Advanced Placement courses, and as an athlete so that I may be better than I am, both for myself and for those around me. 

This means that when I practice I do it to improve for myself and my teammates. I believe challenging your teammates during practice so that they better themselves, cheering and being involved in matches, and making sure your teammates are doing alright are all important to the success of the team. I work hard so that my team is better off, whether that means contributing on the court during a game, in practice working on myself and challenging my teammates to improve, cheering my teammates on, or checking in on them.

I care deeply for my friends no matter their background or identity. At times when they are feeling down, or need someone to talk to, I go out of my way to be that someone. Sometimes their troubles are so large that nothing I do completely assuages them, but that's okay. If, by my efforts, they feel at least a little better, if they know someone is there, then that's all I can ask for.
