My name is Ashdon Godoy and I grew up in Southern California playing Beach Volleyball. I loved the sport and at 12 years old I joined Balboa Bay Volleyball club where I played as starting Outside hitter on the Blue (1’s) team until I was 15 years old. The coaches I learned from were some of the best in volleyball and I gained a really great knowledge of the sport. At 15 years old my family moved to Westport, Connecticut where I started school as a freshman at Staples High School. I have made great new friends and am now the Captain of the Varsity Volleyball team and have received First Team ALL STATE And First Team All FCIAC my sophomore year and Junior year.
My current position is outside hitter at Northeast Volleyball Club where my team and I just brought home the first USAV Boys GOLD Medal to Connecticut (2022). It is my first indoor Gold medal, but I have a Silver metal in USAV Nationals (2019) and a Bronze in USAV Nationals (2018) from my time spent on the Balboa Bay Blue team. In 2020 I played a full club season as libero as a 15-year-old on a 17’s 1s team in Connecticut (Mizuno East) We won almost every tournament we played in and we earned a bid to Nationals.
Growing up near the beach I spent a lot of time playing beach volleyball. I played and won a lot of events including winning the GOLD Medal in the the AVP Beach Nationals in the 14u gold bracket - 2 man. I was lucky to learn from so many coaches and professional players. I made the USA HIGH Performance training team in Manhattan Beach and finished in 7th place in U15 Nationals with my team mate as a 13 year old. Beach volleyball gave me a much greater understanding of what conditioning really meant. Covering the court with 2 players rather than 6 made me think about player position, ball control and court awareness. The lessons I learned helped my indoor game and allowed me to play all year round.
I am a coachable, hardworking and dedicated player in and out of the gym. I have a great grasp of the game and fundamentals. I love working with my coaches and team mates to achieve personal and team goals throughout a season. I look forward to the challenges that a college student athlete may face. I thrive in pressure situations and love being a team leader. I have played against the best competition in the country and have always held my own. I have faced adversity and adapted to every situation that I have encountered on and off the court. I am excited at the prospect of playing in college and believe I will be an asset to any team at the next level.
