Growing up in Northern Virginia, I had very little exposure to volleyball until I was almost done with middle school. When I was in 8th grade, my friend recommended an anime volleyball show to me, which gave me the idea to first sign up for clinics. I quickly signed up for more clinics to continue learning and I tried out at the beginning of freshman year for one of the only boy's clubs in my area. I wasn't sure if I would make the team, but I did and haven't stepped off the court since.
On the court, I am a strong player and a strong teammate. I keep the positive energy up on and off the court, pushing myself and my teammates to work together, cheer each other on and have fun. I have improved quickly and learned a lot. I am athletic and quick on my feet. I also track the ball well and communicate well with my teammates during games. Even though my primary position is middle, I enjoy playing back row and I'm open to playing almost anywhere. No matter what position I play in the future, I will work hard every day, contribute to the team, and always bring positive energy.
Academics are also important to me. Balancing a big academic workload with volleyball and other extracurricular activities is not always easy, but I have learned through time management and consistency that it doesn't have to be that hard. This year I made honors every reporting period and was inducted into the National Honor Society. At my school, it's not only about academics, but service also plays a big role. We are constantly encouraged to do service in our local community and even have a homeless shelter on our school campus. I have worked at the shelter throughout the school year. Along with volleyball, I also ran varsity track for my high school in the winter and spring. We have come in second at the state championships in both my Freshman year and Sophomore year. I really enjoy being part of a team and have played sports for basically my whole life, including soccer, baseball, and basketball.
I look forward to playing volleyball in college, finding a balance between academics and a sport that I have grown to love so much.
