My name is Emilio Melendez. It is very nice to meet you!
I left my home town Puerto Rico (where boys volleyball is really big) and moved to Florida in 2015 due to the big recession that left my dad unemployed. This led to a big transition in my family, especially for me leaving behind my school, volleyball teams, and friends. I moved to Port St. Lucie Florida in 2016, and it was very challenging for me to find a local boys’ team at a competitive level. After months of research and endless efforts, I started playing for Palm Beach Juniors for the 2018-2019 season.
I am 15 years old, (born 2004 / Class of 2022), energetic athlete, well rounded and disciplined. I am currently the opposite hitter for Ocean Bay Volleyball 15s Quiksilver team (height: 5’9”, vertical reach 10’0”, vertical block 9’8”) with potential growth.
I have a clear aspiration for college-level play and continue my direction to play high performance. I am passionate and serious about volleyball and my academic goals. I have a continuous thirst for growth. I wish I could have the opportunity of having more exposure, and in the near future getting an opportunity to prove myself and pursue my dream of completing a Bachelor’s Degree while playing college volleyball.
I would like to demonstrate my skills and break barriers. Prove that minorities can exceed and be part of a new generation of young professionals in the US. New challenges will happen in this ever-changing world, but I am ready to find solutions as an athlete, and as a future professional to make this world a better place for tomorrow.
