My name is Andrew Tomaszewski and I am the co-starting setter at Ultimate Volleyball Club for the 18U Gold level team. In addition to my club team, I am currently the senior, starting setter for the Varsity team at Lincoln Way West High School. Last season, I was the captain and starting setter for the Varsity team where we went 17-4 by winning not only our conference title, but also our regional championship.
I began my volleyball career in 7th grade by playing on my junior high team. The following year, I was as a contributing member of our 8th grade conference championship team that went 12-1. After winning the conference championship, I found a true passion for the sport and quickly realized that playing club volleyball was the next step in my development. I joined Ultimate and started on their 14U Gold level team. During that season, we won two tournaments and concluded our season at the Boys Junior Championship by placing 14th out of 37 teams. The following season, I moved up to the 15U Gold level team where we competed against 16U teams and finished our season at the Boys Junior Championship by with a 18th place finish in the 15U Open Division. For the four past summers, a fellow Ultimate Volleyball Club teammate and I have played in and won several Chicagoland area beach volleyball tournaments as way to further improve my skills.
The primary position that I have been playing since I began my volleyball career has been setter. This is the position I enjoy the most since this allows me to use my excellent skills to set up my fellow teammates and make a contribution to the team. I play this position like a ‘quarterback’ who not only distributes the ball but also leads the team on the court. I can attribute this thinking to my ten years of playing youth and high school football as a starting defensive tackle. During my football career, I have been a contributing member of three championship teams and made the River Valley All Conference team my 8th grade year. Many of the skills and experiences I have gained during my football career has allowed me to become the volleyball player I am today. I view myself not only as a team player, but a leader both on and off the court.
I intend to focus my college education in the medical field with the goal of becoming a nurse or a physical therapist when I graduate. I am currently enrolled in several honors classes that include Anatomy & Physiology and Spanish 3 while hold a 4.0 GPA. I am member of my high school’s Student Council and during the summer, I volunteer at the local library by assisting with the various youth reading programs.
I realize the opportunity to play at the college level is something that is earned by proving yourself on the court and in the classroom. I have worked very hard to improve myself, both as a student and as a player, so that I can have the skill set necessary to compete at the collegiate level. I am excited for the opportunity to provide myself on and off the court at this level.
I am currently in the process of putting together highlights from my 17U season. When they are all done, I will be sure to update my profile with a link to view them.
If you are interested in learning more about me and my playing experience, please feel to contact me. I would love the opportunity to discuss the next step in my volleyball career.
