Personal Statement

Being a part of my school's varsity team during my freshman season signified a turning point in my athletics. As the sole freshman on the team, I quickly learned the value of leadership. After our senior setter was injured, I was forced to step in and lead the team running a 5-1 on a team with 7 seniors.  My sophomore season was assumed by most to be a "rebuilding season," considering we lost 7 seniors.  Instead, we achieved significant team success, becoming conference champions for the first time since 1996 and making a regional final (falling to the eventual state-runner up).  Personally, I was fortunate to have had good hitters as teammates and set my school's single-season assist mark in my first full year setting varsity.  I wait in anticipation to see where the team is headed in my final two years of high school, while honing my setting skills at Sports Performance Volleyball Club (SPVB).

I am looking for a program that has a high standard for academics as well as a competitive edge on the court against elite competition. With my background of both high school and SPVB club experience, I believe I possess the talent, character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make a lasting, positive impact on your program.

  • Leading the team as a captain, our team stayed afloat during this club season. Facing adversity while losing and gaining new players, we continued to be ranked similarly to higher level teams. After gearing up to win nationals, I broke my hand, but continued to play another 7 matches as we stayed in gold. Later, we narrowly lost to the team that won the tournament.

  • Went into the tournament with high hopes of success and expected to place. However, during match 1, I broke my hand in the third set, yet I still playing another 7 matches. We had a very close match (23-25 and 25-19) with Vanguard (the team that won the championship). Not the success we wanted, but we proved that we could fight through adversity and keep our spirits high when everything seemed against us.
