Personal Statement

I had started playing volleyball at the age of 15 as I was looking for something to improve my mental wellbeing and fitness, and I instantly fell in love with the team nature of the sport. I've been able to grow and develop as a player in England despite there being far smaller recognition of the sport here, providing me with the foundations to become a competitive player here playing at the highest level as a junior here (Volleyball England U18 Tier 1 Junior Grand Prix). Playing volleyball has made me more physically fit as I’ve also been dedicated to improving by going to the gym as a way to separate myself from other players in ability. It has also made me more mentally strong and confident after dealing with some mental health issues as an early teen. My school work has also seen a change since then previous, with me taking a more head on approach on my schoolwork, persevering when I find work difficult. Its also helped with group project with me putting more input rather than just taking a back seat on discussions and choices.

My scope for improving myself in England is limited due to the lack clubs and opportunities to play at a higher level and therefore I am looking to further my development and opportunities in America. While in the US I aspire to improve further by having more frequent and experienced coaching while also being able to gain the qualifications that would allow me to have a good career in the future whether in the US or back home.

I am excited at the prospect of working with more experienced coaches as well as the other roles aiding players that I have previously not had such as nutritionists and physios. the recourses and facilities that collages have excite me too as many teams here are only limited to rented gyms and the facilities and equipment they provide only.

I always try to help, support and aid my other teammates which has been acknowledged by my club coach making me the captain for one of the regional mens team (West Midlands Volleyball Association Div 3). In addition to this, I assist in the coaching of the volleyball club's junior squads and training sessions which has improved my understanding of adapting to issues on the court. My passion for communicating the benefits of health and fitness to the younger generation has been demonstrated when I undertook work experience at a local middle school. I gained first-hand experience dealing with a variety of athleticism not only in volleyball but in other sports that the school facilitated and how to make it enjoyable for all students.

This upcoming 2024/25 season, i will not only be continuing my junior 18U campaign for my third year, but i will also be competing in the volleyball England National Volleyball Mens League, playing in the 3rd devision in the north central devision. i am exited about this new opportunity and hope many good things come from it

I have chosen my subjects at A-Level because I feel like they naturally complement each other and offer me the opportunity to explore different careers. Studying Psychology and Criminology has avenues in the justice system, whereas studying Business has given me insight into possible future business ventures. I have a great interest in both of these paths and would be delighted to pursue either in further life.

The passion and dedication I have for this sport is a feeling I have never experienced before and has completely changed me as a person and a student. I would love the opportunity to pursue it further so that I can develop my skills and potentially play at a competitive level in the further future .
