My name is Grant Younie. I am a senior at Pratt High School. My collegiate goals and aspirations are to attend a college with a great engineering program and a strong volleyball program, where I can challenge myself in the classroom and on the court.
I have not been playing competitive volleyball for very long. Western Kansas doesn't offer many opportunities for men's volleyball. I travel 3.5 hours to play on my club team out of Lawrence, Kansas. Even though I haven't played a lot of competitive volleyball, my mom has coached high school girls volleyball my whole life. I've spent countless hours playing against her teams since I was little. I have good ball control, a fairly high volleyball IQ, I am a hard worker, and I'm very coachable. But most of all I have a passion for the game of volleyball. I also play high school football, basketball, and baseball and have been elected to Student Council the last three years. All of these have helped me develop leadership skills on and off the playing field.
Off the court, I work hard to maintain a high GPA. I am involved in almost every club and organization that my school offers, as well an active member of my church's youth group. Family is very important to me, but there are only a few colleges in Kansas that offer both engineering and men's volleyball, so I'm not opposed to attending colleges far away.
