My name is Suvidh Kolluru and I am a 17 year-old high school student from Monroe Township, NJ. One of my greatest passions is playing volleyball, and I currently specialize as a setter, opposite hitter, and defensive specialist for both the Monroe Township High School Varsity Volleyball Team as well as the Core Volleyball Club. As a scholar-athlete, I bring significant value to any team, not only through my skills but also as a reliable teammate and friend.
During my sophomore year of high school, I was selected to play on the junior varsity volleyball team. I was also selected to contribute to the varsity volleyball team during my sophomore year as well. In both of these roles my goals were to contribute my skills for and love of the game to my team. One of my greatest assets as an athlete is my ability to think on my feet under pressure, and make quick decisions that contribute to my team's success. Strategic thinking is my forte, enabling me to execute plays that secure points efficiently.
Moving onto my junior year, I was a full time starter and star player. I was one of the primary hitters for my club team and school. During club season before school started, I was only a front row hitter as an opposite. Hitting made me understand that there are so many ways to swing at a ball. So many angles, techniques, tools, tips, hitting around a block, everything made it an art. You have to think about so much yet keep such a calm head to stay focused on the test of putting away your setters set. I see the ball as the primary goal. I want to reach as high as I can every time I hit it. I want to push myself and make that ball hit the ground on the other side of the court to let me rise above and surpass the goals I reached so high for. This puts volleyball into the perspective of my life as well. Always trying to reach for the goals that I want and surpass it
As my junior year high school season came along, I was not just in the front row but also played back row as a DS. Volleyball wasn’t just a game for me. It was a lifestyle that I revolve my life around. Being in the back I was scared of the ball hitting me too hard and would run away, but then I realized like in life I can’t run away from my problems. I have to face them head on. Passing was like being able to steer my life in the right direction. Even though the ball might come at you hard and try to make you shank the ball off course, I will always do my best to give a perfect pass no matter how difficult it might be for me to pass. Just like passing, in life many things have tried to take me off path, but I always persevered to get to exactly what and where my goal was, academically, athletically, and grew my character.
As my senior year came, I had transitioned to a setter. I now play as one of the starting setters from what the season had to offer thus far. This major change was hard at first but I was quickly able to learn. The difference between hitting and passing was that the game revolved around me. My teammates put all their trust into my getting the ball to where it needs to be. In my life I trust that I must always set my friends up for success and do everything in my power to help them out first. In all honesty, I believe that I embody putting others before myself And that it will grow me for the better in all aspects of life.
My skill set is versatile, ranging from accurate passing all across the court to powerful hitting and effective blocking to setting from any spot on the court. I take pride in my adaptability and willingness to learn, always seeking opportunities to refine my techniques. Beyond the game, I believe in the importance of community and am known to foster camaraderie and lift others’ spirits through my positive attitude and caring nature. I also enjoy spending time giving back to my community and engage in community service activities regularly.
Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue a future in business, economics, or real estate, complemented by a minor in computer science. I am excited to apply the same determination and strategic mindset I bring to the court to my academic pursuits. With my dedication, passion and skills, I am confident in my ability to excel both as an athlete and a student.
