Hi, My name is Nathan but I go by my middle name: Sawyer. I live in Oregon City, Oregon. I am looking for a college that has a strong engineering program and offers Men's Volleyball.
I have a real interest in mechanical engineering. I went to a charter school that had a focus in science and I competed on a robotics team for 2 years. At home, I like to build things and understand how things work. I have an academic strength in physics and math and I think engineering would be an exciting career path.
Both of my parents played volleyball. My mom played in high school and my dad played club in college. My dad was also a High School Boys Volleyball coach, so I started out peppering with my parents in our front yard. Right now, we have a net setup in our front yard and I built a contraption to hit balls over the net.
I first started playing when I was 9 years old. I played as the only boy on a girls team because there were no boys programs around me. I started out as a setter, but soon became a libero because I was younger and smaller than the girls on my team.Later on, I found a boys team that competed against older girls and traveled out of state to play other boys teams, but they were 1 hour away so I played on both the boys and girls teams. On the boys teams I started out playing libero because I was the youngest player, but when I played with boys my age I played OH and RS. Once I reached high school, I played only boys on the same club team with most of the same boys.
On my current team, I play right side hitter. I am listed in the outside hitter position for our line up so I can be in the serve receive position for every rotation. However I rotate to the right side when I can as I am left handed and I am a strong blocker on my team.
I enjoy the speed of the game and flow and rhythm that can come with an effective offense. I also like the teamwork that is needed as well as the different roles that are all needed to form a team.
