Personal Statement

Sports have always played a big part in my life from 4-year-old t-ball and soccer to now playing high school and club volleyball. I played many sports competitively, but volleyball quickly became my true passion. I bring a strong competitive drive to the court and am able to help elevate any team I have played on. I also have the athleticism necessary to be successful at any position my team needs me to play. I have always been a leader on whatever team I have been on and always try to lead by example.

Even though I would like to play volleyball all the time, I am continuing to learn how to achieve the correct balance between volleyball, my school work, and my job. I make it my goal to improve my performance in school each year and so far I’ve been able to do that. I make it my goal to perform my job to the best of my ability every day that I work and I make it my goal to give it my all when I am on the court and learn and get a little better in every practice and match.

Starting outside; team captain. Placed 11th at the Boys Winter Volleyball Championships in Chicago and received an open bid to nationals. Placed 3rd at the Dennis Lafata Gateay Bid Classic. Placed 1st at Badger Region Championship Tournament.
2018 Milwaukee Volleyball Club (B14)
Started the season a the starting middle and ended the season as the starting outside hitter. Team Captain. Placed 2nd at the Boys Winter Volleyball Championships in Chicago and received an open bid to nationals. Placed 1st at Badger Region Championship Tournament. Placed 1st in the Dale Rhode Memorial Tournament. Placed 2nd in the Palos Point Series Boys 14s #3 tournament. Placed 30th out of 36th teams in a Boy 16 division tournament. Placed 17th at 2018 USAV Boys' Junior National Championships.

Evaluation notes from Jeremy Price - I really enjoyed coaching you at the A2 camp. It was awesome to see your progression from the beginning of the camp to the finals. You are a competitive player and sometimes a bit of a perfectionist, so don't spend to much time on the last play and move on to the next ball. Hitters have to hit and sometimes you were too hard on yourself which can be a distraction for the team. Spend more time communicating with your teammates during and after the play. Continue to work on your explosiveness to terminate in system and out of system balls. Thanks for having a great attitude on and off the court. I wish you all the best for this up coming season and I am excited to see your growth in the game.

Evaluation notes from Jeremy Edge - Lucas, you have natural ability to be a great volleyball athlete with little effort. You have shown to us during the week of training that you can be a great beach athlete with more training. Remember to keep a steady mind and enjoy the process and remain coachable. If you set your mind to it you will achieve what you want. Work on waiting for your sets and jump up instead of forward and the consistency will get there. You're incredibly athletic in the sport of volleyball Lucas. Remember that in the beach discipline it is much more difficult to move in the sand than it is on the court in the indoor setting. If you continue to play beach, work to remove any false steps, and stay low to shuffle or dive to make a play on the ball. The more efficient you become at moving in the sand, the better position you will be able to put yourself in to swing, pass, set, etc.

Evaluation notes from Brian Sharkey - Camp Director: Lucas did a great job showcasing his ability to hit on the outside, right side and middle, which is going to make him VERY valuable to any school or club team that he joins in the years to come. He is a very well rounded player to, proving he is a valuable person to have in serve receive, on the attack or on the block. Very well done, sir! If I were to say things he needs to work on moving forward is his defense/transition. Sometimes he wants to get his approach before playing defense. Common for a lot of young players. I can't wait to see him as he progresses and learns to compete at the highest level where the game is so fast paced and explosive.
