My name is Alejandro Medina and I attend Centennial High School in Bakersfield, California. I have been playing water polo for a little over two years, but I have been competitively swimming for three years. My swimming experience has helped me in water polo by building my endurance and speed, which is crucial as I often have to play the whole game. An example of this is my double roster status for 16U and 18U during the SoCal Cup in May 2022. I played four games back-to-back for each day of the tournament.
As a utility player, I specialize in the point and two meter defense positions and I can accurately pass and shoot with both my left and right hand. I am currently my school's water polo team captain, was voted first team All Area in 2021, won the most dedicated award, and have medaled in multiple events at Junior Olympics Long Course (2021) for swimming. I am a coachable team player and take constructive criticism well.
My intended field of study is biology/pre-med with an end goal of being a paramedic. The biggest challenge I have faced was navigating my academics during COVID. I struggled with the inconsistency of the material delivered at the time, however this academic year I am maintaining a 4.0 GPA and my updated transcript will reflect that.
Outside of academics and athletics, I am an active member of my church and volunteer for food distribution and other community outreach programs.
