I have been playing water polo year around since the seventh grade. Unfortunately, for the first few years, I was smaller than my teammates and my opponents. This disadvantage compelled me to hone in on the skills I could control. I learned every aspect of the game in order to gain any advantage. I am fortunate to be left handed which helped me get extra time in the pool to practice my skills. I also focused a lot of time and energy on being a fast swimmer. Eventually I did catch up in size but I learned the most and grew in to the player I am today because I was smaller for longer. This has led me to be valuable player on a winning team.
I have looked at each challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow as an athlete. I am proud of not only what I have accomplished in the pool but in the classroom as well, even with the rigor of playing two varsity sports. I am hoping to meet new challenges as a college athlete in a competitive program where I can continue to develop as a student and teammate. I am confident I have the skills necessary to be an asset to your program because I know what can be achieved through hard work and commitment.
