When I first came into high school, I never knew what water polo was. My dad played when he was in high school. He said it was a good sport and signed me up. Once I started playing that was when I found my true passion for this sport. I've played other sports like soccer and baseball, but water polo was just so different because everyone started on the same level. It was up to you if you wanted preserve to be the best. Naturally when your new to something you've never seen before you're not the best, I was one of the worst players my freshman year. I scored one goal in a whole season. Instead of being defeated and finding something new; I did my research and found water polo clubs near me that can help me improve. After 5 months with San Diego Shores club, I came back to the fall season to score 9 goals in one weekend tournament. I kept up with SD Shores until March when covid hit. My skills as a player definitely fell back because everywhere I went to play was closed. Until I found East County Aquatics which focused more so on my mechanics and skills. I then started my junior year of high school back in shape and ended it as a varsity starting set with a team that got 3rd place in CIF. My senior year team didn't hit the mark to play CIF this 2021-2022 season, but I still earned my first team all-league patch as my team's captain. We didn't win this season. However, this sport has shown me how to overcome challenges, adjust, and meet my goals that once seemed impossible.
