Seven years ago I had just wrapped up another year of summer swimming. My parents told me I needed to pick a sport for the fall. I knew my only choices were soccer or year-round swimming. I was still deciding when I was sitting by the television watching the Olympics and I saw this amazing sport called water polo. I told my parents, "That's what I want to play." They told me that they didn't think anyone in Colorado played water polo. After some research, we found a team that practiced less than five minutes away from my house. From that moment on, I wanted to focus all of my efforts on water polo. I've played with the Rocky Mountain Neptunes for seven years now. This year will be my sixth at Junior Olympics, and I try to go to as many tournaments as I can.
Since there is not yet high school water polo in Colorado, I have to do other activities at school. I have run cross country for two years, and I have been on the swim team two years as well. I also play drums in the school marching band. It keeps me really busy and in good shape for club water polo. I work hard in school and maintain good grades. This year I have also been working with the Big Waves Foundation. The Foundation was formed after my good friend and teammate, Vaughn Bigelow Junior was killed by an angry gunman in a senseless act of road rage. Big Waves is working on getting high school water polo in to Colorado schools. My school is one of seven hoping to have teams begin play in the 2019-2020 school year. The Foundation is also offering scholarships to water polo players to help them achieve dreams of going to college.
I hope to be able to go to a college where I can play competitive water polo while getting an undergraduate degree in pre-law or criminal justice. I am a very hard worker and know how to manage sports and academics.
