My name is Nolan McDonald, I am 16 years old, and will be graduating from high school in 2023. I am a Canadian and currently living in Illinois with my family. I did most of my schooling so far in Canada, and I have also lived in Tokyo for 2 years and Singapore for 2 years. I currently attend Libertyville High School, where I am on the Varsity Swim Team, and waterpolo team. I am a hole set player with an agile swimming background who knows how to use my size to gain an advantage on my opponent. I have played competitive water polo since I was 12, and was an accomplished competitive swimmer before I made the switch. My love for all aquatic sports started very young. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Montreal where I could spend my summers at our local outdoor pool training. I am open-minded and adaptable. Moving to different cultures has taught me a lot about understanding different points of view and welcoming new ideas. I am really looking forward to the college environment and making new connections in class and on our teams.Grades and staying on top of schoolwork are very important to me. Aquatic sports require discipline and good organization skills to balance the intense schedule with school work. In my first term in the US I secured a 3.91 weighted GPA without too much adjustment. My success in my AP classes has inspired me to want to study computer science and engineering in college. I am motivated to pursue water polo seriously as a competitive sport and it would be a dream come true to play division 1 water polo in college.
