My name is Abel Meyer and I am currently a junior at the Lakeside School in Seattle, WA. I am currently 6 foot 4 inches tall, I weigh 183 pounds. As background in my academics, at the Lakeside School while they do not provide students with a GPA, I maintain an A average in my classes. The Lakeside School is ranked the number one private school in Washington State and I am fortunate to attend a school that is ranked among the twenty best private college prep schools in the United States. I greatly enjoy my studies and I am looking forward to continuing learning in the areas of English, computer science and art. I am interested in swimming in college. I currently swim year round for a SMAC (a club team in Seattle, WA). My best times are currently 22.6 in the 50 and 50.1 in the 100. Both of these times were recorded last weekend in mid-November. While I swam in summer leage and also for high school teams, this is the first year that I have committed to swimming year round for a club team (as I have been focusing on water polo over the past three years). Recently, because of some large improvements in my swimming times, I decided to make the switch from water polo to swimming. I am looking forward to this year’s swim season in the winter, where I expect to compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle, as well as the 100 back. I am excited to swim at WA Senior Championships, State Championships and also US Swimming Sectionals and I hope my best times (from last weekend), will continue to improve.
To provide some personal water polo background, when I have been playing water polo, I typically play right hand attack, hole defense, and I sprint for my team. In Seattle, WA, I have played year-round water polo with Northwest Water Polo and Rain City Water Polo, and I also play high school boy’s water polo in the fall. In the summertime, I also coach summer league youth water polo. Over the last several years, I have been fortunate to play in several state championship tournaments and I have also played water polo in the platinum and gold division at Junior Olympics. I have been playing water polo and swimming for numerous years. During the 2022 high school season, I was one of the high scorers on my varsity team. In state championship games, I scored between forty and fifty percent of the goals for my school. My interest in water polo and swimming started as a young athlete because my father was a collegiate swimmer and water polo player at Stanford University. Although water polo in Washington State is not as competitive as in California, I have been fortunate to play water polo in several tournaments in California and I also had a really great time attending water polo camp in Croatia this past summer. I have enjoyed training and playing year-round water polo and I have traveled to the Junior Olympics tournament in Southern California, as well as other tournaments, games and ODP tryouts.
