Part of who I am comes from the rigorous college preparatory curriculum of my school. More than the difficultly of my classes, I believe that the values of Trivium have helped shape me into the person I am today. The school does not focus primarily on grades and scores, but on learning, building a community, seeking beauty and goodness, and looking beyond the "correct" answer. I grew up going to baseball games and watching my dad play slow pitch softball, but I never played until one of my close friends convinced me to play little league with her in fifth grade. After starting little league, I became interested in pitching, so my dad and I started practicing behind our house. At that point, I could not even catch the ball well, so my dad had to roll it back to me in between pitches. Since then I have continued to play catch with my dad and I have progressed up from little league to high school and club.
Through softball I have learned that i have a competitive spirit and do not like to be substandard or be a point of weakness for my team. After I realized this, I noticed that it extends to all aspects of my life, including academics, sports, and my mock trial team. I have also learned how to handle pressure as a pitcher and how to move past my mistakes and focus on the problem in front of me. Being on a competitive team has taught me to be able to receive criticism from teammates and coaches. I have come to realize that sometimes friendship includes pushing each other and challenging each other, while simultaneously encouraging and supporting each other. However as part of my nature that refuses to be substandard, i have sometimes found myself too afraid of failure. I have had to figure out how to work to be the best, learning from then moving past my failure. My goal is to maintain a 4.0 and be valedictorian of my class. I am looking for a high-quality four year university that will prepare me for medical school.
